Medaille College: College-in-Prison Reentry Program Grantee

Medaille College was selected to receive grant money in response to the Manhattan District Attorney Office’s request for proposals to deliver college educational programming through the College-in-Prison Reentry Initiative.

With these funds, Medaille College is providing college-level classes and reentry support at Albion Correctional Facility.

Medaille College is one of 7 educational providers to receive funds to provide college-level classes in prisons operated by the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision (DOCCS). These programs will increase the availability of educational programming to inmates in New York State prisons; develop standards for prison education curricula and develop articulation and transfer agreements so that credits may be efficiently transferred across institutions to enable students to complete their degrees; and develop reentry support plans for participants. To qualify for the program, incarcerated individuals must have no more than five years remaining on their prison sentence.

Programs like this along with the other initiatives being developed under the Criminal Justice Investment Initiative (CJII) form a comprehensive set of strategic investments that, together, will have a significant, lasting impact on public safety and justice reform in New York City.
